Hey friend and Welcome aboard!!
You may be wondering, does cheap music production equipment really exist? Well I’m here to tell you that it does! You just have to know where to look. That’s where I come in. I have been continuously seeking out this stuff since 2007.
Acquiring gear doesn’t have to be difficult
There is really nothing complicated about the process, even though you will find many people online making it out to be just that.
Essentially it comes down to some major components that all come together like the Beatles:
- A desk
- A chair
- An adequate computer
- An audio interface
- recording software (Audacity is a great free option!)
- a microphone
- the right cables and wiring
- studio monitors
- A good pair of headphones
- A MIDI keyboard or drum pad
- A turntable (for the sample based producer, or enthusiast!)
And that’s it!!
Don’t get me wrong, you are going to have to budget properly. Years ago this list would have ran you thousands of dollars. Today you can get it all for under $1500.
Easy. Squeezy. Lemon. Peezy.
You probably had visions of some grandiose studio with a billion knobs, didn’t you? Don’t lie I know you did 😀 WELL YOU DON’T NEED IT! Lol.
Luckily for you, I have a guide on how to get started, that will take you through the process of gathering this stuff. You don’t even have to do any research!
If you have any other questions about cheap music production equipment, let me know!!

Hey Stu,
Just responding to your invitation for website review on WA. I really like your website, and can tell you can have success with it, as you seem to know a lot about your craft. I would say to add a few more pictures or color throughout your site. I think you have a great writing style though, so keep it up!

Thanks Bry! Being my first post, I just wanted to get something out there that was relevant. I will be posting more in depth blogs soon. And I will also take some of that advice. I have some ideas.
Cheers!

I honestly would have thought gathering everything together that you need to produce music would have cost a fortune. I’m so surprised that you can obtain this type of equipment up for no more than $1500. This is nice to know as I have a very musical daughter! 🙂
It’s crazy how different things are nowadays Michelle! Stuff just seems to be getting more and more affordable.

That’s not fair, now I’m hungry for more information lol. Actually that comment is for real, I make websites on the side and would love to be able to add my own fresh sounds to them. I rather create my own original stuff but always figured it was out of my price range. I’ll be keeping an eye out on your site for these tips and pointers because I beleive they will benefit me trumendously. Thanks and I look forward to more. Cheers

Nice article Stu. I’m heading over to home studio basics now to check it out. I was hesitant to even look into production equipment for the kids, but if I can get it going for 1,500 or less I’d be glad to. I was expecting to be spending much more. Thanks for the pleasant surprise. ~Jeremy
Jeremy you’ve made my day! Looking forward to hearing what you think about my content 🙂
