Hello there friend and Welcome aboard!!

Before we get into the Grado GS1000 vs. PS1000, grab a snack (or a tic tac), sit back and relax because..

You’ve come to the right place!!

What I will bring you in this review

Today I will provide a quick comparison of these two, and then give a recommendation towards the end! ?

  1. Similarities & Differences
  2. Final Word

Now without further ado, let’s get rolling!!

Similarities & Differences

Similarities

  • Both have a similar build, which deviates from the traditional Grado look and feel.
  • Both have an impedance of 32 Ohms. What is Headphone Impedance?
  • Each have pretty big ear-cups, and are circumaural. That said, they don’t fit in the same way that you would expect an around ear headphone to fit. They still fit pretty well, but sit a lot looser than a traditional circumaural pair.
  • Both have foam padding, and Grado’s G-cushions, which open up Soundstage and provide better comfort.
  • Both have very good Soundstage. What is Soundstage?
  • Both are open back headphones. Closed back vs. Open back headphones.
  • Both have 99.8dB of Sensitivity. What is Sensitivity in headphones?

Differences

  • Material. The PS1000’s utilize an aluminum, chrome plated alloy, and in fact combine elements of wood as well. The GS1000’s are made of strictly wood/mahogany.
  • Bright. The GS1000’s are a lot brighter than the PS1000’s, with less bass. The mid-range is also a little less present and full.
  • Vocals. The GS1000’s vocals sound more distant, while also having more emphasis on the upper registers. The PS1000’s come across as more heavy and weighty.
  • Bass. The PS1000’s have more bass energy, while also having more slam as well as a better refined clarity. The GS1000’s bass is a little overblown and somewhat muddy, while the PS1000’s is tighter and digs down deeper while still remaining clear and focused.
  • Mid-range. The PS1000’s also have a more present mid-range with an increased amount of fullness. It’s more forward by comparison.
  • Frequency Response. The GS1000 sports an 8 – 35kHz, while the PS1000 has a 5 – 50kHz response.
  • Overall Sound. The PS1000 is a more accurate headphone by and large than the GS1000. The GS is more “colored” or “fun”, while the PS1000 would fare better in a studio setting where you’re critically listening for flaws. The PS1000 is subsequently less forgiving of source material as well.

Final Word

I’m not sure either of these are quite worth the asking price. I did a comprehensive guide on the Grado e series line, and I came to the conclusion that you can achieve 90-95% of the Grado sound with the SR80e. Interested in checking it out?

What a misleadong conclusion about SR80. These are budget headphones and doesn’t sound more then this. You pay 100$ and you get such sound. Maybe 10% of sound or less. Depends what is required. Get what you pay for.

Hey man I’m not really sure what you mean by a misleading conclusion. Could you extrapolate?
