User Documentation
If you’re a gaming enthusiast who values both performance and affordability, the Logitech G305 might just be the perfect mouse for you.
With its wireless capabilities, impressive sensor, and ergonomic design, the G305 brings a lot to the table without breaking the bank.
In this review, we’ll delve into the features, performance, and overall experience of using the Logitech G305.
Design and Ergonomics
The mouse boasts a sleek and streamlined design that’s comfortable to hold for extended gaming sessions.
Its symmetrical shape is ambidextrous, catering to both left-handed and right-handed users.
The matte finish on the plastic body provides a pleasant tactile feel while minimizing fingerprints.
The G305’s compact and lightweight form factor makes it a breeze to maneuver, ensuring a secure hold even during intense gaming moments.
Wireless Performance
One of the standout features of the G305 is its wireless connectivity.
Using Logitech’s proprietary LIGHTSPEED technology, the mouse offers a 1ms report rate, ensuring a lag-free and responsive connection that’s on par with wired mice.
The wireless performance is so seamless that you’d be hard-pressed to notice any difference from a wired mouse, even during fast-paced gaming scenarios.
Sensor and DPI
Equipped with Logitech’s HERO sensor, the G305 provides exceptional precision and accuracy in addition to a great battery life.
With a sensitivity range of up to 12,000 DPI, this mouse caters to a variety of gaming styles.
Whether you’re a sniper requiring pixel-perfect precision or an aggressive gamer bro who favors lightning-fast movements, the G305 has you covered.
The sensor’s tracking is smooth and consistent, ensuring that your every move translates precisely onscreen.
Battery Life
Battery life is a crucial consideration for any wireless device, and the G305 is more than up for the task.
With a single AA battery, the mouse can last up to an impressive 250 hours of continuous usage, making frequent battery changes a thing of the past.
This is a significant advantage for gamers who want to avoid interruptions during marathon gaming sessions.
Customization and Software
Logitech also has an app you can download here, which allows for some interesting customization options. Let’s take a look:
Connect Your G305
Make sure your Logitech G305 wireless mouse is connected to your computer.
You can do this either through the LIGHTSPEED USB receiver that came with the mouse or via Bluetooth if your computer supports it.
Launch Logitech G Hub
Open up the Logitech G Hub software. It might take a moment to detect your G305, but once it does, you’re in business.
Select Your G305
Look for your G305 in the list of connected devices within the Logitech G Hub interface.
Click on it to bring up the customization options.
Assignments
Don’t worry, I’m not talking about homework, Larry. Lol.
You can reassign any or all of the buttons. My favorites are the 2 on the side.
By default, they are “Back” and “Forward,” but if you’re anything like me, you may accidentally press these while reading a webpage/scrolling.
A minor annoyance, but we can bypass this by simply assigning some other command to both of the buttons; a command we’ll actually utilize.
For example, because I do a lot of editing, any of the following commands would improve my workflow:
-
- Zoom In
- Select All
- Paste
- New Tab
- Cut
- Save
- Redo
- Copy
- Undo
- New
- Open
- Close Tab
- Zoom Out
- Zoom Reset
All of these and more are available to you via the app.
They will be in the tabs named “COMMANDS” and “SYSTEM.”
Just choose the 2 you’re most likely to use the most. Now simply drag and drop onto the appropriate commands and you’ll see the text turn blue.
Now release.
You can also adjust the middle scroll wheel button.
Because I listen to Spotify while working, I can make the middle button a Play/Pause, and the side buttons “Next Track” and “Previous Track. These are in the “SYSTEM” tab.
Pretty nifty.
Notice the Scroll Wheel Button is now a Play/Pause:
And now the Forward/Back Buttons are Next/Previous track:
Sensitivity (DPI)
By default, Logitech gives you 4 speed modes:
- 400
- 800
- 1600
- 3200
With the app, you can change the speeds manually (or by clicking the diamond icon), drag them around with your mouse, and even delete one or more entirely.
The software is very user-friendly and intuitive, making it easy for both beginners and experienced users to personalize their gaming/working experience.
Performance
The Logitech G305 sets the stage for a remarkable experience, whether gaming, working, or casually browsing the internet.
Driven by its HERO sensor, this mouse transforms your movements into digital precision.
Each click is a testament to its responsiveness, a result of LIGHTSPEED wireless technology.
The versatile DPI range accommodates various playstyles and workflows and is incredibly responsive – whether you’re sniping like my friend Solid Lad or attempting to click a thousand different things at once like me.
During extended gaming sessions, the G305’s ergonomic design ensures comfort, allowing you to stay focused on your virtual conquests.
Its battery life, up to 250 hours, means you’re less likely to be interrupted by a power outage.
However, if your gaming ambitions involve complex macros or an extensive button layout, the G305’s modest six-button configuration might feel restrictive.
Despite this, the G305 stands as a testament to wireless gaming excellence, offering precision, responsiveness, and comfort, all while leaving you immersed in the gaming world without battery-related worries.
Potential Drawbacks
While the Logitech G305 offers a lot of value for its price, it’s important to consider some of its downsides before making a purchase decision.
Here are a few aspects that some users might find less favorable:
Lack of Premium Materials:
The G305’s budget-friendly nature comes partly from its construction.
It predominantly features a plastic body, which, while durable, might not feel as premium as mice with more refined materials like metal or textured rubber.
No RGB Lighting Customization
While the speed customization is nice, you can’t adjust the colors inside the App.
They are as follows:
- 400: Yellow
- 800: White
- 1600: Orange
- 3200: Pink
Even if you could, the light is tiny and it wouldn’t really add much to the experience.
Button Layout and Customization
The Logitech G305 features a button layout that includes six programmable buttons, providing a decent level of customization for various gaming needs.
While this number of buttons can cater to a wide range of tasks and gameplay styles, some gamers who heavily rely on complex macros or play specific games that demand numerous inputs might find the button layout to be slightly limited.
The six programmable buttons, including the standard left and right buttons, the clickable scroll wheel, and two side buttons, can be configured through Logitech’s G Hub software (discussed previously).
This allows you to assign functions, commands, or macros to these buttons, enhancing your efficiency and control during gaming sessions or other tasks.
If your gameplay or workflow heavily relies on a multitude of inputs, you might want to explore gaming mice with a more extensive button layout to accommodate your specific needs.
Non-Adjustable Weight
The G305 has a fixed weight due to its design and battery compartment.
While its lightweight nature is generally a pro for many gamers, those who prefer the option to adjust the weight of their mouse might miss this feature.
Average Comfort for Larger Hands
While the ambidextrous design is a plus, users with larger hands might find the mouse a bit cramped, especially during extended gaming sessions.
The lack of ergonomic contours tailored to specific hand sizes could lead to discomfort for some individuals.
Limited Customization Without G Hub
While the Logitech G Hub software allows for customization, some users might find it slightly limited compared to more advanced software offered by other gaming peripheral manufacturers.
Additionally, without the software, customization options are more restricted.
No Rechargeable Battery
Despite its impressive battery life, the G305 relies on AA batteries instead of having a built-in rechargeable battery.
While this contributes to the mouse’s lightweight design, it might not align with the eco-friendly preferences of some users or those who simply prefer the convenience of rechargeable options.
Remember, no product is without its trade-offs, and these downsides might not be significant concerns for every user.
It’s essential to weigh these potential drawbacks against the mouse’s strengths to determine if the Logitech G305 is the right fit for your gaming setup and preferences.
Closing Thoughts
The Logitech G305 is a budget-friendly gem that offers exceptional wireless performance, a top-notch sensor, impressive battery life, and some useful customization options within the App.
It’s a mouse that punches well above its weight class, catering to a wide range of gaming preferences while remaining affordable.
If you’re in the market for a reliable wireless gaming mouse that won’t empty your wallet, the Logitech G305 deserves a spot at the top of your list.
I’ve been using one since January 2021 and haven’t looked back. It’s been a phenomenal investment for me and I highly recommend it!
