Every studio needs a mouse (real or otherwise), and today we’re going to take a look at one of my all-time favorites in the Logitech M325.

But before we embark on this journey, I want to set the tone straight – no excessive fanfare or over-the-top excitement here.

Just a down-to-earth conversation about what makes this mouse tick, the good and the not-so-good, without any unnecessary fuss.

We’ll also compare it with the G305; another mouse I have here at the pad.

With that, let’s pull up a virtual chair and take a casual stroll through the ins and outs of the Logitech M325.

Design and Ergonomics

Pictured: M325 (left), G305.

The M325 boasts a design that’s neither too flashy nor too mundane – it’s a sweet spot of simplicity.

Its compact size is a plus, fitting snugly into your palm without engulfing your entire hand.

The symmetrical shape welcomes both left-handed and right-handed users, making it a versatile pick for everyone.

Plus, it’s lightweight, making it easy to carry around, and its stealthy glide on different surfaces ensures a seamless browsing experience.

Durability in Design

From the moment you lay eyes on the M325, you can tell it’s built with longevity in mind.

Its construction isn’t flimsy or delicate; it’s solid and sturdy.

The mouse’s shell is robust enough to withstand the rigors of daily use.

Those soft rubberized grips on the sides prevent wear and tear, ensuring that your fingers rest on a comfortable surface that maintains its integrity.

Endurance in Everyday Use

Logitech M325 Review

The M325 proves to be a trooper in the face of everyday wear and tear.

Countless clicks, scrolls, and swipes – this mouse has seen it all in my home studio.

Whether I’m casually browsing through memes, tackling a heavy workload, or engaging in epic gaming battles, the M325’s buttons and scroll wheel keep soldiering on.

They maintain their tactile feel and responsiveness, showcasing that they’re built to withstand the test of time.

Surviving the Drops and Bumps

Accidents happen, right?

A sudden slip from your desk or a minor bump against the edge of your laptop – these are the moments that truly put a gadget’s durability to the test.

The M325 doesn’t shy away from these challenges, and while I wouldn’t recommend treating it like a stress ball, this mouse has shown resilience when subjected to occasional bumps and drops.

Its solid construction, along with a bit of luck, often means it emerges unscathed from these accidental encounters.

Still Going Strong

Here’s the kicker – after years of service, I can safely report that my M325 is still ticking like Mick Foley.

The buttons continue to click, the scroll wheel continues to scroll, and the overall performance remains consistent.

It’s a testament to the thoughtful engineering that went into crafting a mouse that stands up to the test of time.

Performance and Responsiveness

With that, how does it perform?

The M325 might not be the flashiest stallion in the stable, but don’t underestimate its capabilities.

The optical sensor underneath the hood is a reliable workhorse, delivering consistent performance across various surfaces – from your polished desk to that trusty notebook.

The cursor dances obediently to your every move, which is a blessing when you’re juggling multiple tasks.

That scroll wheel?

It’s just the right mix of smooth and tactile, making sure you’re scrolling through pages or spreadsheets with reckless abandon.

It’s not the fanciest, but it’s certainly dependable.

Wireless Connectivity

Logitech M325 Review

Cutting the cord has never felt so liberating. The wireless connectivity on the M325 is pretty rock solid.

You can say goodbye to that annoying tangle of wires cluttering up your desk.

The wireless receiver plugs into a USB port and is remarkably low-profile, so you won’t accidentally bump or snag it.

And the cherry on top?

The receiver is compatible with the “Unifying” technology, which means you can connect multiple Logitech devices to the same receiver – a handy feature if you’re tight on USB ports.

Battery Life

With a single AA battery, you can expect to keep clicking away for several months before needing a replacement.

Plus, the smart sleep mode kicks in when the mouse is idle, preserving precious battery juice.

Software Customization

Now, let’s address a slight hiccup. The M325 is a budget-friendly option, and that does come with a minor trade-off.

Unlike some of its pricier siblings, this mouse doesn’t offer extensive software customization.

You won’t find programmable buttons or fancy RGB lighting here.

It’s a straightforward, no-nonsense mouse that does what it’s supposed to do, but customization enthusiasts might feel a tad left out.

DPI Adjustability

Another thing to consider is the lack of DPI adjustability.

The M325 comes with a fixed DPI setting, which might not be an issue for casual users but could be a drawback for those who need precise control in gaming or graphic design tasks.

Compared To The Logitech G305

Logitech M325 Review

Design and Ergonomics

The Logitech M325 boasts a compact and comfortable design that’s suitable for a wide range of hand sizes.

It’s more focused on practicality and everyday use, with its symmetrical shape accommodating both left-handed and right-handed users.

On the other hand, the Logitech G305, is designed with gamers in mind.

It has a slightly more streamlined and sporty look, featuring a contoured shape that provides extra support during intense gaming sessions.

Performance and Responsiveness

Both mice offer reliable performance, but there’s a distinction in their intended use.

The M325 is perfect for everyday computing tasks like web browsing and document editing.

Its optical sensor provides accurate cursor movement, ensuring smooth navigation across various surfaces.

The G305, on the other hand, is geared towards gaming.

It features a higher-performing HERO sensor that offers higher DPI sensitivity and faster response times, crucial for precision in fast-paced gaming scenarios.

Wireless Connectivity

Logitech M325 Review

In terms of wireless connectivity, both mice utilize the same Logitech Unifying receiver technology, allowing you to connect multiple Logitech devices to a single receiver.

However, the Logitech G305 also offers an optional Lightspeed wireless technology, which provides a faster and more responsive connection, ideal for competitive gaming where milliseconds matter.

Battery Life

When it comes to battery life, the Logitech M325 shines. It’s optimized for efficiency, offering months of usage on a single AA battery.

Conversely, the Logitech G305, while providing excellent battery life, prioritizes performance.

It uses a single AA battery for longer use, or you can swap to a single lithium AAA battery to reduce weight and further extend battery life.

Price Point

Naturally, with the enhanced features and gaming-focused design, the Logitech G305 tends to be priced slightly higher than the M325.

The latter caters to a more budget-friendly audience while still providing reliable performance.

Customization and Features

Logitech M325 Review

Here’s where the Logitech G305 truly shines.

It’s equipped with additional buttons, allowing for more advanced customization and macro assignments, which is a Godsend for gamers who want precise control over their in-game actions.

The M325, being more of an everyday mouse, offers fewer customization options in comparison.

Before we wrap up, let’s talk a bit more about this advanced feature of the 305.

DPI Adjustment for Customizable Movement Speeds

The Logitech G305 elevates your gaming experience with its DPI adjustment feature.

Think of it as your mouse’s turbo boost – it allows you to tweak the sensitivity of the cursor’s movement on your screen.

This is particularly handy when you need to shift from slow, precise movements to lightning-fast flicks in the heat of a gaming battle or a demanding task.

How It Works:

The G305 typically comes with multiple DPI presets, which can be adjusted using dedicated buttons on the mouse or through their app.

There are 4 speeds, and each speed lights up a different color.

When you click the middle button, the DPI settings change, altering how far the cursor moves on-screen for a given physical movement of the mouse.

A lower DPI setting results in slower cursor movement, while a higher DPI setting makes the cursor zip across the screen with minimal effort.

Customization and Fine-Tuning

What makes this feature truly remarkable is the ability to customize these DPI settings to match your preferences.

You can often use software provided by Logitech to adjust and assign specific DPI values to each preset.

This means you can fine-tune your mouse’s sensitivity to match your gaming style, the specific game you’re playing, or even different tasks like photo editing or browsing.

Gaming and Beyond

In FPS games, you might want a lower DPI for precise aiming and sniping, but when you need to turn around swiftly, a higher DPI setting can save the day.

It’s a dynamic tool that allows you to adapt to changing situations on the fly.

Beyond gaming, the DPI adjustment feature is a huge asset for professionals who require pixel-perfect accuracy in tasks like graphic design or video editing.

Back and Forward Buttons

The Logitech G305 also boasts back and forward buttons placed within easy reach, but you may simply remap them with different commands that are more useful and/or improve workflow.

Gamers can also map them for in-game actions like reloading, in effect enhancing responsiveness.

Customizable through Logitech software, these buttons offer versatility, though some might find them sensitive initially.

Regardless, they are an efficient tool, streamlining tasks and gaming actions with a simple click, and they contribute to the G305’s user-friendly experience.

Closing Thoughts

Logitech M325 Review

In a nutshell, the Logitech M325 is a dependable everyday mouse that shines in comfort, battery life, and simplicity.

It’s a great choice for general computing tasks.

On the other hand, the Logitech G305 is a performance-oriented gaming mouse with advanced features, a faster sensor, and enhanced customization options, making it the go-to choice for gamers looking to up their precision.

Your choice between these two models ultimately depends on your specific needs and how you plan to use the mouse.

As for me?

I upgraded to the G305 a couple of years ago and haven’t looked back. I love the M325 and still have it, but as of now, it’s my backup mouse.

The great thing about the 305 is that you don’t necessarily have to be a gamer to use or enjoy it.

I sometimes play PC games, but most of the workhorse duties involve everyday tasks associated with writing, editing, graphic design, making beats, etc.

So you can’t go wrong with it and I would highly recommend one!
