Today I just wanted to go over how to repair a broken cassette tape that you may have almost given up on!

The adhesive on older cassettes such as this Jadakiss tape from 2001 has probably just lost its stick. Fortunately, it’s an easy fix.

Step 1

Open up the shell. Be careful not to crack it as it’s fairly frag-i-lay.

This is a somewhat tedious process, so just take your time and don’t get flustered.

Step 2

All we’re doing is reconnecting the tape from the supply reel to the take-up reel, allowing you to hear the music again.

Over time, the adhesive loses its grip and comes apart, but you can’t really tell and would never know just by looking at the tape itself.

Before you start, make sure the take-up reel (lower left) is facing the right direction so that the tape spools correctly.

To get a flush attachment, simply tape the two pieces directly on top of each other, and use an Exacto knife to get rid of the excess.

Now just turn it over and repeat for an extra layer of protection.

You can also use a scissor to really clean it up so it will spool properly without issue.

Now comes the tricky part: You’re going to want to make sure that the piece of tape runs over the top of both tape guides and the pressure pad.

The pressure pad is attached to the magnetic shield, so just make sure it’s facing the right direction.

Now simply put the tape back together.

In my case, I had to use Scotch tape because whatever piece used to snap the 2 shells in place broke at some point.

As seen in the video, I tried a few different players. I have 2 at home, which, as it turns out, are both apparently broken.

Fortunately, my mom’s friend had a working one that he let me borrow. The third time’s a charm.

Don’t give up!

Also, remember to replicate this process for the other side of the tape as well.

I learned that the hard way after rewinding it and finding out the beginning of the tape had the same exact issue!

Well, that’s about it for today my friend! I hope you’ve enjoyed this discussion on How to repair your broken cassette tape, and came away with some valuable insight.
