E-WIN Champion Review: Unadulterated Bliss?

Today, we’ll review E-WIN’s “Champion” gaming chair, evaluating build quality, comfort, features, price-to-performance, and more.

By the time you’re finishing reading, you’ll know if it’s worth a purchase. If it isn’t, I’ll point you in the direction of something that is.

With that, let’s dive in!

Introduction

To say a computer chair is an essential part of your home studio is a massive understatement. I’ve had many over the years, some cheap ones you’d find in Staples, others of the La-Z-Boy variety.

As comfortable as La-Z-Boy is, the faux leather on all of them eventually succumbs to the worst peeling you can possibly imagine. Think tiny little bits of pleather EVERYWHERE. It never ends.

This is the original I had back in 2014. It’s long gone now.

Years ago, I had one (seen above) and it eventually caved. A while back, my mom gifted me her old chair (another La-Z-Boy) because she was getting a new one.

When she gave me the chair, it was in excellent condition, with almost no signs of wear or peeling. Over time, however, it slowly fell apart. At one point, it got so bad that I obsessively peeled the entire chair just so I wouldn’t have to find any more specs of faux leather in my ear and other places I won’t mention. Tee hee.

For a year or so, I’ve had my eye on a specific gaming chair that won’t be named, but you can imagine my sheer bewilderment combined with unspeakable joy when, out of nowhere, E-WIN reached out to me asking if I’d like to try one of theirs. Mind you, I had been waiting and waiting for an opportunity to purchase the other brand, so the timing of them emailing me was nothing less than perfect. God is good.

So it goes without saying that I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to evaluate this chair, helping YOU decide if it’s worth it.

Let’s start with assembly.

Putting the chair together

One of the best things about the E-WIN Champion is just how easy it is to assemble.

I put it together in about 15-20 minutes flat without instructions. It’s incredibly intuitive, and they made everything nice and streamlined.

The box it comes in isn’t overly gigantic and contains all the tools needed for a quick build. This was perhaps the fastest I’ve ever put anything together, and I applaud E-WIN for the great experience. Normally, you hit a snag or 2 in the process, but piecing together the Champion was smooth sailing from start to finish.

Build Quality & Features

E-WIN Gaming Chairs are designed to handle 400 lbs. of gaming excellence, so this bad boy is ready for even the largest of Heffers.

5x Double meat, double cheese pizzas to go with your gaming experience? No problem. The heavier you are, the better. Bonus points if you don’t exercise. Just don’t forget the industrial-sized soda to go along with it.

Jokes aside, the frame of the chair is made of sturdy carbon steel, featuring Temperature and Pressure Sensitive Cold-CureFoam Cores, a Heavy-Duty reinforced ADC12 aluminum wheel base, Heavy-Duty Class 4 hydraulics, and Brisa Ultra PU Leather; a feature that defines E-WIN’s revolutionary series.

One of the Champion’s strongest selling points is indeed this type of leather, which is engineered to withstand wear over time and maintain its appearance even with frequent use.

Time will tell if this claim holds up, but I’m excited to put the chair through its paces and find out.

Additionally, E-WIN employs magnetic Full-Metal 4D PU padded armrests and a magnetic slow-rebound memory foam head pillow.

This pillow contains custom-embedded neodymium magnets, allowing it to snap into place on the backrest in any position you desire.

The reason the carbon steel frame is so important lies in the chair’s versatility and malleability, basically providing a 3-in-1 experience (beatmaking/gaming marathons, office work, leisure). If you can believe it, Champion doubles as a recliner, with 85°~155° tilt. This means you can basically lie down on it parallel to the ground. Just use the provided lever on the right-hand side:

Bliss.

The adjustments are almost limitless, and the heavy-duty gaming chair accommodates nicely with the handle.

For me, this is absolutely the best “immediately tangible” feature of E-WIN’s Champion. I’ve always wanted something that I could lie all the way back in, and this product accommodates that desire perfectly. It’s a match made in heaven, really.

Pull the lever under the seat (left-hand side) up to release the tilt mechanism, and down to lock it.

Use the lever on the right-hand side (push it down) to adjust the seat up or down.

4D Integrated Lumbar Support System

This is an exceptional feature, offering 2 adjustments:

On the left-hand side of the chair, you’ll find “Lumbar position.” With this, rotate the knob clockwise to move it up, and counterclockwise to move it down.

The right-hand side is “Lumbar curvature.” Rotate the knob clockwise for more curve and counterclockwise for less.

Aside from the reclining feature, the 4D lumbar support is, in my opinion, the second-best thing about the chair.

If I had to make a small (OK, tiny) nitpick, the location of the knobs is a little cumbersome to reach back and adjust, and I feel like the knob could be a bit easier to turn.

That said, it’s a small price to pay for the excellent care that went into designing the system. It’s useful, practical, and serves a variety of folks with varying lower back conditions.

This, combined with the Temperature and Pressure Sensitive Cold-CureFoam Core (essentially the other pillow), makes for a great 1-2 comfort punch, and I’m actually living my best life in this thing. NO LIE.

Imagine coming home from a long day at work and looking forward to sitting in a super comfy gaming chair that goes ALL THE WAY DOWN.

Perhaps you have a favourite pair of headphones you like to listen to music with. This chair + those headphones + your favorite Spotify playlist <(<cough mine cough) is a great way to relax and unwind after a hard day’s work.

Today, I was out in the hot sun working in a garden about an hour north of me. I usually spend Monday mornings helping at a local Food Bank with a gal from church. After loading up various meats and vegetables in her trailer, we drive back to her 11-acre farm and unload them.

This non-profit service aims to provide food to the hungry a few times a week, and because I help out often, she was kind enough to let me plant some vegetables in a few of her raised beds.

As satisfying as it is to grow your own food, let me tell you something right now, buster: it’s exhausting.

No matter.

When I got home, E-WIN’s “Champion” was waiting patiently for me, almost seductively beckoning me over. And you can bet your hot buns I obliged, releasing a slow “ahhhh” exhale as I sat down, eventually kicking back and nearly falling asleep to the unmistakable sounds of John Coltrane.

The only thing missing here that would have tied the entire experience together like the dude’s rug, is a foot rest. I actually jerry rigged a makeshift one (a cardboard box) and it’ll do for now, pig.

In any event, I would love to see E-WIN design something special for my feetsies, but I’m not docking any points or anything like that.

This is an excellent product and I’m really enjoying it.

FULL-METAL JACKET 4D ARMRESTS

I added the “jacket” in there, but I’d be remiss if I didn’t talk a bit about these. They’re adjustable in 3 ways:

Up

Use the click mechanism on the outside of the arm to adjust up or down.

Side to side

Do your best Nujabes impression and press the button on the inside of the arm. Now move side to side.

Inward/Outward Rotation

Press the small silver button towards the front of the arm to rotate inward or outward.

All 3 of these armrest features provide nice flexibility for an array of users and serve as the cherry on top of an excellently crafted cake.

Aesthetic

If that wasn’t enough, the chair looks the part and doesn’t take up a lot of room in my studio space. The red/black goes nicely with my setup, and it doesn’t look overly flamboyant or showy, garnering just enough attention to stand out tastefully.

Overall Value & Final Verdict

When it comes to “gaming” chairs, I have next to no experience. But when it comes to quality, I know a good chair when I sit in one.

E-WIN’S “Champion” is my first gaming chair; it stole my heart immediately, and I’m not joking. Let it steal yours, too.

It’s everything I wanted in a computer chair and then some, allowing me to comfortably and stylishly make/EQ beats, rap, play games, crush the Hold ‘Em tables, or get a bunch of work done and write reviews like this one.
